I HEART CRAFTY THINGS: Snowman Salt Dough Magnets

Welcome to another edition of the 12 Months of Sensory Dough. This month is all about Salt Dough. In the winter months, we love reading the "Snowman at Night" book series. We had our first bit of snow this week. Not too much snow, but it made us excited to pull out our snowman book and inspired us to make Snowman Magnets.

How to Make Snowman Salt Dough Magnets:
Salt Dough Recipe: 1/2 cup salt 1 cup flour 1/2 cup warm water
1. Mix the ingredients together. Knead the dough until it is a smooth doughy texture.
2. Use a rolling pin to roll out the dough to a 1/4-inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out your shapes. We used a circle cookie cutters for our snowmen.
3. Use a spatula to pick up your shape and place it on a shallow baking tray lined with parchment paper.
4. Add opaque pony beads onto your shapes to make your snowmen. I also cut a small triangle shape for the snowman nose and we placed it onto the snowman head. (We received our pony beads from Craftprojectideas.com.)

5. Bake your salt dough snowman in the oven at 200 degrees Fahrenheit for 2-3 hours. The pony beads didn't melt at all, but since we pushed them down into the dough they stuck in there.
6. When your snowman are finished baking, paint the carrot nose with orange paint. We also painted two mini craft sticks brown for the snowman's arms. We received our crafts sticks from Craftprojectideas.com.
7. When your snowmen are finished baking and are cooled, glue magnets to the back of the snowman pieces. We used Magnetic Buttons and Magnetic Tape that we received from Craftprojectideas.com.

8. Now have fun putting your snowman together on the fridge or a metal surface.

If you make more than one snowman, it's fun to mix and match the snowman bodies and my daughter loves positioning the arms in different ways.
