My preschooler and I are having so much fun with Baa Baa Black Sheep this week! We've learned the traditional nursery rhyme, read a darling book (affiliate link) with another fun rendition of the nursery rhyme, made a super cute sheep craft, and we've been finding fun ways to incorporate all things sheep into learning. This Sheep Printable Sight Words Game I'm sharing with you today is perfect for preschoolers or kindergartners who are working on learning their sight words and it makes a great spring learning activity.

St. Patrick's Day Sight Words Game (with free printable)
Below you will find the printables I made for the game. Just click on the images to be directed to the download page. I printed my Game Board on heavy cardstock and laminated it with clear contact paper. The Shamrock Notepad Card Page can be cut into fourths to make four cards. (**FYI: The Game Board Printable appears to have white lines in it when you open the document, but when you print it they aren't there.)
To play the game you will also need 1 or 2 dice, a game piece to move around the board, and a pencil. For our game pieces, I cut a small circle out of cardboard and put a glitter shamrock sticker on top. It worked out perfectly!
How to Play: Start the game with your shamrock game piece outside the pot on the left side of "they". Roll the dice and move that many spaces on the board, landing on a sight word. I had my son use 2 dice because I wanted him to get some adding practice in too. Now read the sight word, then write it on your Shamrock Notepad Card. Continue playing until your Notepad Card is full. You could easily do at least 2 Notepad Cards each game if you have the time.
Reviewing sight words with flashcards gets so drab around our house, so I like coming up with ways to make it more fun. My Kindergartner gave me the thumbs up with this activity!

Valentine's Sight Word Practice
My kids have a year round schedule at their elementary school. They have been off track the last 3 weeks so in an effort to keep them up on their school work we've been doing extra activities and worksheets daily. I thought I would share this sight word activity I put together for my Kindergartner.
First we read "Franklin's Valentines" by Paulette Bourgeois and Brenda Clark. In the story, Franklin's Valentines drop out of his backpack as he runs to school and when it's time to pass them out to his classmates he realizes they are not in his backpack. I used this tidbit in my sight word practice activity.
For my activity I used 12" x 12" scrapbook paper and cut them into fourths. We are working on 28 sight words so I used 7 sheets of paper. On the blank side of each 6" x 6" paper, I wrote one of the sight words towards the middle of the paper and then folded all four corners in and closed it with a foam heart sticker to make it look like a Valentine.
After making all of the Valentine's, I scattered them on the floor throughout an area in my house, as if they had fallen out of my backpack, just like in the story.
After Luke collected several Valentine's, he brought them to the table. Once he opened a Valentine, he read the word out loud to me, then wrote the word again on the Valentine underneath where I had written it. Next, he found and colored the sight word on this worksheet I made below. This acted not only as another activity for him to recognize the sight word, but also as a tracker sheet to make sure he found all of the Valentine's throughout the house.

The activity was a hit with my Kindergartner. I liked how it gave him an opportunity to read the word, write the word and recognize the word. Simple and effective!
